Dual-Gard Oil Filtration System
This installation is an AMSOIL Dual Remote BMK-15 in a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins Diesel 5.9L 24-valve engine. There was an 8,000 mile breakin period during which the oil and filter was changed twice. before the bypass filter system was installed

These two pictures shows the tight quarters. Installation involved removal of the battery and battery tray. A piece of cardboard was used as a template, cut to size and bent at a right angle for attaching the Dual Gard adapter. A local welding shop cut a stainless steel plate the size of the cardboard template and bent the plate on a 90 degree angle. Holes were drilled in the plate so the bolts used to secure the battery tray would now also secure the Dual Gard mounting plate to the inner fender. No additional mounting bolts were necessary. Note the rubber tube from the air filter box to the intake of the turbo rests on the Dual Gard mount. The Dual Gard comes with two mounting brackets, one for on top of the aluminum filter mount, and one below. In this installation, both brackets were painted black. Note the four bolts through the filter mount and brackets are nut end up.

This view shows the two 90 degree hose fittings that were used on the right side of the filter mount. Each fitting was part of the BK-11. This fitting kit available from AMSOIL comes with one short 90 degree fitting as shown here and one long 90 degree fitting. Two BMK-11 fitting kits were used, with both short fittings used on the filter mount, and both long fittings used on the Spin-on Casting (see below).

This is where the stock oil filter mounts. The spin on casting is in place with the two long, sweeping 90 degree fittings. The spin-on casting and fittings are labeled in the larger picture (click on the picture to see enlarged picture). Note the hoses are directed towards the rear of the engine. The hoses make a wide "U" loop under the turbo.
|
This picture shows the rubber hoses extending from the "U" loop and up to the filter mount. Note that a piece of heater hose is used to provided added protection to the oil lines. The heater hose, each piece about 18 inches long, was slit the length of the hose, wrapped around the hoses, and held in place with nylon ties.
