    Dump Truck Company Shows
    Savings With AMSOIL

A common question, both by email and from visitors to our booth at various trade shows or car shows, relates to the cost of AMSOIL products vs. other products on the market. An AMSOIL Dealer friend shared a worksheet he formulated from actual data derived from a field test performed for a Chesapeake, Va. dump truck company. After converting two dump trucks to AMSOIL SAE 15W-40 Diesel and Marine Oil, CTL Powershift Transmission Fluid, and Severe Gear Synthetc SAE 75W-90 Gear Lube, the company ran these trucks for six-months maintaining very detailed records including diesel fuel consumption and oil analysis which was performed every 10,000 miles. After seeing the savings, outlined below, the company owner decided to switch all 35 of his trucks to AMSOIL. Here is why:

Initial Cost for 35 Trucks (including two trucks in initial field test):

Product Code Qty Descrip. Unit Price Tot. Price
    ACE-55
    7 SAE 15W-40 Diesel & Mar Oil $594.00 $4,158.00
    CTL-55 2 Powershift Trans. Fluid SAE 50 825.00 1,650.00
    CTL-05 5 Powershift Trans Fluid SAE 50 83.00 415.00
    TGR-55 5 S2000 Gear Lube SAE 75W-90 1,056.00 5,280.00
    BMK-12 35 By-Pass Dual Mount 82.50 2,887.50
    BE-110 70 By-Pass Filter Element 10 in. 21.85 1,529.50
    G-1322 1 Oil Analysis Kits (100) 875.00 875.00
        Subtotal   $16,795.00
        Discount   1,679.50
        Sales Tax   680.20
        Total   $15,795.70

Savings from the use of AMSOIL:

    Fuel:
Over the course of six months, the trial truck that was equiped with AMSOIL engine oil, by-pass filters, CTL Powershift Transmission Fluid, and Series 2000 Gear Lube SAE 75W-90, had an overall average increase in fuel mileage from 5.2 mpg to 6.1 mpg. This increase equated to a savings of $10.00 per day.

$10.00 per day at 250 operating days per year equals $2,500 per truck.
$2,500.00 per truck with a fleet of 35 trucks equates to an annual savings of $87,500 in fuel savings in one year.

    Lubricant Savings:

      Previously using petroleum AMSOIL
Motor Oil Drain Interval (miles) 7,500 37,500
No. of oil changes per year 10 2
Average Gallons per Oil Change 11 11
No. of drums of motor oil needed per truck per year 2 .4
Total no. of motor oil drums needed per year 2(35)=70 .4(35)=14
    Cost per Drum $200.00 $594
Total Expenditure for Motor Oil $14,000 per year $8,316.00
    Total Savings for Oil = $14,000 - $8,316 = $5,684 saved in one year.

    Oil Filter Cost:

      Previously using petroleum AMSOIL
Full Flow Oil Filter Change Interval (miles) 7,500 18,750
Make-up Oil for Full Flow Oil Filter Change (one gallon per oil filter change, every 10,000 miles) $27.30 $40.50
By-Pass Oil Filter Change (one gallon every-other Full Flow Oil Filter Change $0.00 $40.50
By-Pass Oil Filters (2 filters - after initial installation, changed three times) $0.00 $87.40
Total Oil & Filter Change Cost per Truck $27.30 $168.40
    Total Fleet Cost (35 trucks) $955.50 $5,894.00

The savings from the use of the CTL Powershift Transmission Fluid and Series 2000 SAE 75W-90 Gear Lube must be determined over a longer period of time. The customer had been changing the petroleum fluids used in the transmissions and differentials annually. With the utilization of used fluid analysis, it is expected these fluids will remain in service for three to five years or longer, depending on the analysis results.
