The story of AMSOIL Inc. begins in the mid 1960s, when Lt. Col. A.J. “Al” Amatuzio, a jet fighter squadron commander, was impressed by the superb performance of synthetic lubricants in jet engines and began studying their possible automotive applications. In 1972, after an intense period of research and development, Al Amatuzio introduced the first synthetic motor oil in the world to exceed API automobile service requirements.
The next year, Amatuzio developed a marketing plan to get his innovative but still unknown product to customers. His marketing plan enabled customers to have personal contact with an Independent Dealer who could take the time to explain the product and answer questions. The rest is history! From humble beginnings in a northwest Wisconsin warehouse, AMSOIL pioneered an entire industry -- synthetic lubrication -- and established high professional and ethical standards for a unique business opportunity.
The AMSOIL Products
Of course, AMSOIL has also continued to set new industry standards for motor oil performance, quality and consistency.
Since 1972, AMSOIL has produced synthetic motor oils with a recommended drain interval of 25,000-miles or one year, whichever comes first, and even longer. No other major producer even comes close, and AMSOIL stands firmly behind this claim with a warranty.
The oil companies consider motor oil a byproduct of making gasoline. There is no substitute for gasoline -- at least not yet – and for every barrel of crude oil refined, heavier oils, including motor oil, comes out the bottom. If they don’t sell it, they have to dispose of it. So they put a quick lube on every-other corner and come up with catchy marketing phrases like “pay me now or pay me later”. The AMSOIL Commitment to Quality and The Environment
It is estimated at present that over 240 million gallons of oil are improperly discarded annually. Improperly dumped used oil seeps through landfills into ground water, disrupts bacterial digestion in sewer treatment plants and washes into lakes and harbors. Used motor oil is the largest single source of oil pollution in our nations waterways. Certainly the first thing we can do is not create so much used oil to begin with, and extending the useful life of oil to one year does just that.
Each year nearly 600 million gallons of motor oil are burned and exit through the tailpipes of cars and trucks, creating emissions pollution. Petroleum oils volatize (burn off) more readily than AMSOIL synthetic oils and create more emissions pollution. AMSOIL shows dramatically less weight loss … less than half the weight loss of its closest counterpart. Some oils tested lost 20 percent of their weight resulting from oil boiling away and released into the environment.
The thicker oil left behind after volatization contributes to damaging deposits, sticky piston rings, reduced fuel economy and increased air pollution.
